Medical and Nursing Services

The LISVH is operated by Stony Brook Medicine and continues to be one of the only nursing homes in the country that is fully integrated into the health and educational mission of a major teaching and research university. We are proud to advance academic research and to be a place were tomorrow’s geriatric professionals including physicians, physician assistants, nurses, rehabilitation professionals, social workers, dieticians and recreation therapists receive their education and training.

The LISVH offers comprehensive medical and nursing services. We provide a full time medical director and a staff of full time double-boarded certified physicians in internal medicine and geriatrics. Our doctors have access to an in-house pharmacy operated by Certified Geriatric Pharmacists, providing a comprehensive formulary. With a full complement of registered nurses on duty 24 hours a day and our own on-site certified nursing assistant training program, the LISVH remains attentive to our resident’s skilled nursing needs.

Our interdisciplinary care team works with each resident and family to develop a care plan to address their own individual needs.

From head to toe, our medical team has you covered. Whether you require an audiologist, optometrist, dentist, podiatrist, geriatric psychiatrist or psychologist, the LISVH provides all these health care professionals on-site within the home.

If our residents require any additional healthcare services, our affiliation with Stony Brook Medicine enables our residents to receive access to the NY Metropolitan Region’s best healthcare professionals and the most advanced medical technology available today. Stony Brook Medicine, located ¼ mile from LISVH, is an academic tertiary care hospital with Centers of Excellence in areas including Cardiology Cancer and Urology.

Our in-house dental services provide a full-time geriatric dentist and dental hygienist. Utilizing the latest in oral care technology including a 360° Panorex dental imaging system and advanced dental computer software, we provide a full compliment of services to our residents. Whether you need basic dental care, denture repair or minor oral surgery, our veterans never have to leave the home.

Our On-Site Audiology Center is staffed by an audiologist and boasts the latest state of the art audiometric equipment. Since hearing aides foster communication, it is a priority to provide our residents and adult day registrants with this valuable on-site service. Hearing aides are fully fitted and programmed right on our computer at the LISVH. Digital hearing aides, which offer enhanced clarity, are prescribed for our residents.
