The LISVH respiratory unit cares for those with a respiratory illness as their primary diagnosis. Some respiratory needs that are cared for on the respiratory unit include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, suctioning, pneumonia and tracheostomies. Some residents may be oxygen dependent and require oxygen 24 hours a day.
Enhanced training is provided to the staff who serves our residents on the respiratory unit at the LISVH. Residents who experience respiratory difficulties or illnesses have special challenges associated with their illnesses. Some residents feel anxious when they cannot breathe, and our staff is prepared to meet their psychological needs as well as their medical needs.
Our respiratory unit is staffed by nursing, physician assistants and medical personnel. Our physicians are double board certified geriatricians who work full time at the LISVH and monitor the needs of our residents. Additionally, Respiratory Therapists perform rounds on our Respiratory Unit.
